Remastered classic film “West Side Story” to be shown at the Hollywood Bowl accompanied by a live orchestral soundtrack by the Los Angeles Philharmonic

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Academy Award-winning 1961 film version of the classic musical “West Side Story,” the Hollywood Bowl will host high-definition screenings of a newly re-mastered print of the film July 8 and 9 at 7 PM.The screenings will feature the Los Angeles Philharmonic accompanying the film with a live performance of Leonard Bernstein’s classic and romantic score.The Los Angeles Philharmonic will also perform the scores of Academy Award-winning film composer A.R. Rahman (“127 Hours,” “Slumdog Millionaire”) July 10 at 7 PM.An update of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” <em>West Side Story musicalizes the romance of a Polish-American boy and a Puerto Rican girl set against the interracial gang warfare of 1950s New York City. The score includes such classic songs as “Maria,” “Somewhere,” “Tonight,” “I Feel Pretty,” “Something’s Coming” and more.Featuring a score by Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents, the Broadway musical premiered in 1957. The film features a screenplay by Ernest Lehman adapted from Laurents’ book.
