Welcome, Baby Lata!

Baby Lata
Baby Lata with wide open, curious eyes.

Congratulations to Mama Monette and Papa Jerrold on their beautiful newborn son! 6 pounds, 12 ounces; 10 long fingers, 10 long toes! (His name has yet to be announced but I’m rooting for Derek a la Derek Ramsey.) [[Update 4/9/12: It’s official! Our new baby cousin’s name is Jerriq!]]

Baby Lata was born at 1:14PM today, paralleling his older brother Jerrel’s birth time at 1:15AM 6 years ago. I didn’t get to see Jerrel interact with his new baby brother, but Manang Monette told us that Jerrel didn’t want to leave the hospital without him. He’s been so excited the entire pregnancy, waiting anxiously for his little brother. I can’t wait to see them together.

The one thing that really impressed everyone was how open his eyes were immediately after being born. Typically, babies don’t open their eyes too wide for a few days but Baby Lata was too curious to keep them closed. His eyebrows were active, furrowing in confusion or frustration that he didn’t quite know where he was and wanted to find out.

Manang made the joke that I shouldn’t read to him, like I did with his brother when he was only months old, or he’s going to become a nerd like me. Sorry, Manang – I’m going to read to him whether you like it or not! But this time, I’ll start with Dr. Seuss and not Charlotte Bronte.

Welcome to the world, little one! I hope you’re exited for all the aunties and uncles who are going to spoil you rotten, just like your big brother! I’m excited to have spent your first Easter with you, and I’m even more excited to share more Easters.

Congratulations, again, to Manang Monette and Manong Jerrold!! You’ve been blessed with another perfect baby boy – what a great addition to the family!
