I’m a very emotional person, so I’m naturally attracted to musicians whose emotions easily come through in their songs. Jamar Rogers is admittedly an emotional person also (read up on his life story and you’ll understand why), and you can feel it in his flawless riffs and beautiful vibrato.
Watching him in an intimate setting that Hotel Cafe famously provides was definitely an emotional experience. Though the songs he wrote on his own were quite powerful, his cover of Coldplay’s “The Scientist,” which he so intelligently closed the set with, is too beautiful. While the original is subdued and simple, I prefer Jamar’s deeply soulful take. It gives me the chills every time I play it.
